LAWN TENNIS

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING AUCKLAND TOUR OFF A meeting of the Management Committee of the Vv'elliugto'ii Provincial Lawn 'leunis Association was held last night, Mr. C. G. Swinburne presiding. It was stated that the association could not accept Auckland’s proposal for an interprovincial match. In a letter to the secretary of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association it was stated that it appeared that most of the leading player? had had more than a fair share of leave trom business, this being responsible for the Match Committee not accepting the match. The unselfish proposals submitted by the Auckland Association were regarded as a strong inducement to players, but.a fully representative team could not be found fo make the trip. A letter has been sent to the Canter, bury Lawn Tennis Association expressing thanks for the many kindnesses extended to the Wellington team during its stay in Christchurch. The N.Z.L.T.A.’s circular letter asking for consideration of the matter of bolding the New Zealand championships later than the usual Christmas dates was discussed. According to the letter the principal points to be considered were: (a) The condition and improved form of competitiors; (b) the question of competitors obtaining leave after the holiday season; (e) the extra travelling cost to visiting competitors after the expiry of excursion rates; (d) the juniors, if the tournament were field on dates clashing with the opening of the schools; (e) the weather conditions; (f) the gate re, ceipfs; (g) the dates in each year might vary so" as to avoid clashing with race meetings and other attractions.
