VISIT TO WAIKAREMOANA fly Telegraph,—Press Association. Walroa, February 18. The Minister of I’ublic Works (the Hon. E. A. Ransom), accompanied by Mr, F, W. Furkert, chief engineer, and the Hawke’s Bay department officer, arrived at Wairoa op Saturday evening. They received several deputations of backblocks settlers asking for road access. The. Borough Council made a request for a new courthouse and assistance in the works to prevent river erosion, the bridge maintenance, and other matters. The Minister was afterwards entertained by the local bodies at a smoke concert, Yesterday the party visited J ..'ike Waikaremoana and inspected the hydro-electric works. To-day they will inspect the inland railway route on the way to Gisborne, returning by the const route to Walkokopu to-morrow The Minister had an enthusiastic reception and created a favourable Imui'assiOXU
