TWO MORE RACES DECIDED
WINS TO AVALON AND CLYDE

Two races for tlie Sanders Cup were sailed to-(lay, and were won l>y Avalon and Clyde. The morning race was sailed in a fresh full-sail southerly, and a moderate sea. All boats carried four-men crews. The course was windward and leeward. In close-haul for the weather buoy, Eileen (Otago) took the lead. The Murihlku (Southland) made a good showing for the first half of the race. The order in rounding the weather buoy the first time was Eileen, Avalon, Clyde, Colleen, and Murihiku. On a run the Avalon picked up IS seconds. On the second and final beat Avalon out-sailed Eileen and rounded 40 seconds ahead. The finish was: Avalon, 1; Eileen, 2; Clyde, 3; Murihiku, 4; Colleen, 5, The fourth *Taee was sailed in the afternoon in a strong southerly gale and a heavy sea, over a triagular course. The Eileen (Otago) led until she lost her spinnaker forward on the second round. Then the Clyde (Wellington) went to the front. It was a great race between these two. On the last round the Eileen regained the lead on the run, but was again overtaken by the Clyde, the Wellington boat winning amidst great excitement, eight seconds ahead of the EJleem The Avalon (Auckland) was reefed down, and she was unable to catch the leaders at any stage. She finished third. The Colleen (Canterbury) was fourth; The Murihiku (Southland), which was also reefed, retired in the second round. The Avalon and Clyde have now qaeb two wins. Either have to secure one more race to win the contest.
