A peculiar feature of a fire in Broadway, Stratford, early the other morning was the influence of the colouring of rolls of wallpapers had upon the smoke issuing from the premises. As soon as the flames reached the rolls of wallpapers contained in the long sorting racks, billows of green, yellow, scarlet and purple smoke issued from the windows. The smoke presented a brilliant spectacle to the onlookers (states the Taranaki “News”).
