RESIDENCE DESTROYED BY FIRE
OCCUPANTS ESCAPE IN NIGHT CLOTHES. Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, February 8... At 2.30 a.m. to-day a four-roomed residence, owned by Mr. A. J. Kingsbeer, in Ranfurly Street, was totally destroyed. Those in the house escaped in their night attire, saving nothing. Insurances are not available yet. The house was in flames when the brigade arrived, and they were powerless to do anything but prevent the outbreak spreading. Misses Irene and Evelyn Kingsbeer and Jlick Kingsbeer were the only occupants of the house. Mr. A. Oliver slept in the garage. The party had been in the house the whole of the evening, and retired about midnight, when everything was apparently safe. Jack Kingsbeer was awakened by the sound of something falling, l and awakened the others. The house was discovered to be full of smoke, while the passage was in flames. Although it is not definitely known where the outbreak started, it is presumed that it had. its origin in the washhouse. Mr. Kingsbeer senior was in Wellington on business, and Mrs. Kingsbeer was in Wanganui with the other members pf the family.
