LAND SETTLEMENT
CONFERENCE NEXT WEEK Commissioners of -Crown Lands and members of the Land Purchase Board will discuss'with the Minister of Lands in conference in Wellington on January 23 the most effective means of settling available Crown lands. The question of abandoned farms and the possibility of developing the -pumice lands and other undeveloped areas will be gone into. Mr. Forbes intends during the next few months to make a personal inspection of the undeveloped lands of the Dominion, and to-morrow night he will leave Wellington for the Waitomo electorate, where he will spend two days. He will visit the Ngaroma settlement, which has been the centre of considerable discussion in Parliament during recent years. Mr. Forbes will reach Hamilton on Saturday evening, and will proceed the following day to Auckland, where he will spend two days in the transaction of departmental business. He will return to Wellington on Wednesday morning. While he is away, Mr. Forbes will also visit the Ruakura State Farm.
