ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL
DRIVER’S EXPLANATION OF FATALITY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Invercargill, January 11. At the inquest on Sydney Harold Patton the Coroner, Mr. G. Cruiekshank, said: “It seems to me that the statement of the driver, Day, that he fell asleep at the wheel is the only probable explanation. The accident all happened in a flash. I don’t think Day can be held blameworthy, but so as not to tie the hands of the police, I will return an open verdict that the deceased was killed through being thrown through the windshield of a car driven by Day when it struck a power pole.”
