VIOLENT EXPLOSION
SHOP WRECKED AND THEATRE DAMAGED Sydney, January 2. A violent explosion, the cause of which is unknown, wrecked a boot shop in front of a picture theatre in the suburb of Earlwood early in the morning. Fire broke out, and the roadway was strewn with debris. The picture theatre was damaged, the walls being cracked. Other buildings nearby were also shaken. Firemen subdued the flames. AN ARREST MADE (Rec. January 2, 11.25 p.m.) Sydney, January 2. Following the explosion, Frank Massey, the occupier of the shop, was arrested. Two empty petrol tins were found in the ruins.
