COMMISSIONER OF STATE FORESTS

HON. W. B. TAVERNER APPOINTED

The Hon. W. B. Taverner, Minister of Railways, Minister of Customs, and Minister in Charge of the Publicity and Advertising Departments, has been appointed Commissioner of State Forests. Mr. W. J. Shanley, private secretary to the former Commissioner (Mr. O. J. Hawken) will join Mr. Taverner in a similar capacity. The only Department now not attached to a portfolio is the Tourists and Health Resorts Department; and in reply to a question yesterday, the Prime Minister (Rt. Hou. Sir Joseph Ward) stated that he did not intend to deal with its allocation for a week or so. He repeated his previous statement that no new appointment to the Ministry would be involved. It is expected that the Minister of Health (Hon. A. J. S.tallworthy) will be given charge of the Department referred to. ■
