PALMERSTON BATHS

DEPUTATIONS TO BOROUGH COUNCIL Palmerston North, December 3. Requesting that the cold municipal baths should be changed to tepid, a largo deputation, representing a wide section of the swimmers of the district, waited on the Borough Council to-night. The spokesman placed the position fully before the council, and suggested an artesian w..ter supply, the building of a training shed, electric heating, and the complete roofing of the baths, the total cost of which would be about £lBOO. based on the experience of Christchurch. The Mayor (Mr. 11. A. Graham) said they could' not roof the baths, owing to the weakness of the wall. Heating had been considered previously, but it was too costly.

The matter was referred to the works committee. Asking for an area of the Hokowhitu Domain, as a site for a swimming bath, a deputation from the Hokowhitu School also waited on the council. It wns pointed out by the deputation that the area required, 114 ft. by 90ft., would be a public utility. A special grant of £2OO was expected from the Department, and the baths would cost about £lOOO, plus the grant. The Mayor (Mr. H. A. Graham! promised sympathetic, consideration of the matter. "The reserves committee is to inspect the site, and inquire into the legal position.
