The witness was a strapping Irish labourer, whose repartee to a stiff examination in the Court at Gisborne recently was delightfully direct (relates the Gisborne “Times”). “Did the horse have any teeth?” asked counsel—“He had one or two,” retorted witness. Where; “In his mopth, I suppose,” was the retort, amidst laughter. “Have you heard any of the evidence?’ asked counsel (j “No; I’ve been outside the door. “Haven't you heard my melodious voice asking questions?” continued counsel. “I heard something singing out, 1 man r know what it was.” (Laughter.)
