Rugby, November 20. When the House of Commons last night agreed to a supplementary vote of £15,000, comprising £lO,OOO for Dominica and £5OOO for the Leeward Islands, Mr. Leopold Amery, Colonial Secretary, referred to the havoc wrought by the violent hurricane experienced there last September. He said that nearly £27,000 had been raised for the relief of private distress, which seemed likely to cover the cases. In addition, the destruction and damage of Government property amounted to £30,000 in Dominica alone, and £15,000 in the other Leeward Islands. The Government there could not afford to find the whole of that loss. Of the £lO,OOO proposed for the assistance of Dominica, half was a free gift and half was a loan free of interest, to be repaid' when Dominica -was in a position to juakq reuayinent.
