MAGISTRATE’S COURT

PALMERSTON SITTING.

Palmerston North, November 19. A small list was presented for hearing to Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. A. 11. Frier and L. Inglis were fined 10s. each, with costs of 3s. and 10s. respectively, for riding bicycles at night without lights. Percy Foote and C. Landman were charged with failing to have silencers on their motor-cycles. The former was fined £5 and costs 10s., a fine of £1 and costs 12s. being imposed ou the second defendant.

A fine of £2 and costs 10s. was imposed on Hubert Ross, who pleaded guilty to a charge of riding a noisy motor-cycle. “You had better have the machine fixed.” said His Worship. “If you come before the Court again on such a charge there will be a heavier fine.”

On the information of the Education Department, charges were preferred against three parents that on identical occasions their children were absent without leave from College Street School. Mr. Rutherford, who appeared for the Department, stated that the children had been caddying at golf links on the days In question. The Magistrate imposed fines of ss, and costs in all cases.
