BOWLS
MANAWATU CENTRE Palmerston North, November 19. Hr. J. A. Nash, M.P., presided at a meeting of the Manawatu Bowling Centre tliis afternoon, when advice was received from the Dominion Bowling Association that the centre's application to be constituted a testing centre bad been placed before the executive and it bad been decided that when the Manawatu Centre provided itself with the necessary plant ami the services of a competent bowl tester the application would receive favourable consideration. The general opinion of tlie meeting when this letter was read was that the centre should have its own tester present. The position was most unsatisfactory. It was finally decided that the matter be left in the hands of the chairman for him to interview the Dominion Association at Wellington. Subject to the Dominion Association’s approval, Mr. C. D. Eraser was appointed the centre’s official tester. As the position regarding the proposed pennant matches was unsatisfactory, only eight out of the fifteen clubs being in favour of the scheme, it was decided on the chairman’s suggestion to leave the matter in abeyance until next year. The whole trouble, stated the chairman, was that there was too much visiting. The Dominion Association wrote requesting a nomination in connection with the Australia v. New Zealand test games at Wellington in January, and Messrs. J. A. Nash, J. J. O’Shea, and J. Bartholomew were appointed to select four players. The following nominations were received from delegates present: C. Fraser (Palmerston),-N. 11. Nash (Palmerston), Herdman (Feilding), Ross (Feilding), Suhan (Levin), Wardrop (Woodville), and Grant (Terrace End).
On the suggestion of Mr. Bartholomew it was decided that a veterans’ game be held after the New Year tournament, with si minimum age of 65 years. The centre agreed to bear all the expenses in connection with the tournament.
