GREATEST POSSIBLE ECONOMIC UNIT

LORD MELCHETT’S VIEWS ON BRITISH EMPIRE INDUSTRIAL RECOVERY (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) London, October 31. “I refuse to regard Britain as part of Europe,” declared Lord Melebett, who has returned from America, in an interview regarding the United States and its Industrial and political policy in relation to Europe. “Britain is tlie centre of a great Empire with a greater area aud population and natural resources than any other possible economic unit in the world.” Lord Melchett said he believed in the amalgamation of British industries and the nationalisation of Empire industries, meaning thereby the scientific organisation of industry, balancing production to consumption.

He was convinced that Britain had turned the corner, adding: “While our old supremacy is not yet completely recovered, we have already achieved a definite supremacy.”
