FATAL EXPLOSION

DURING BREAKING UP OF STEAMER (Rec. November 1, 7.50 p.m.) Sydney, November 1. A piece of iron hurtled by an exploslon_ aboard an old paddle-steamer lying at the Rozelle Wharf, fell 50 yards away, killing the owner of this vessel, John Grille. Another piece of iron struck the side of a house a hundred yards further on, and smashed, .among other things, a kitchen sideboard. (Rec. November 1, 10.10 p.m.) Sydney, November 1. The paddle steamer was named the Newcastle and was being broken up by explosives. When Grille was standing clear awaiting the firing of a charge he was struck by a flying piece of scrap iron. Another man standing close by iu conversation with Grille escaped injury.
