BANKRUPT SOLICITOR
BRIGHTER OUTLOOK FOR CREDITORS Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, November 1. Several clients who had invested money through J. B. Batchelor, the young Christchurch solicitor who disappeared some months ago, and was subsequently declared bankrupt, have been agreeably surprised to receive from the Official Assignee (Mr. A. W. Watters) notification to call and uplift their deeds. The investigations of the Assignee and the supervisors (Messrs. W. J. Hunter and Angus Donaldson) have in some cases revealed securities which will reduce the claims made by some of the creditors, for they represent trust funds which were considered to be lost. The household furniture at 133 Peterborough Street, together with the office furniture and law library at Hereford Street, have been realised, and it is anticipated that the estate will benefit from the equities in three house properties in which it has been found that bankrupt is interested. There are also two motor-cars to realise. It will be some time before the Official Assignee and the supervisors' will be in a position to call another meeting of creditors, for there will be very little progress to report until the preliminary investigations into some of the probable assets have been completed.
