FURTHER HONOURED BY GOVERNMENT APPOINTED TO NEW ZEALAND AIR FORCE A graceful recognition of the bravery of Kingsford Smith and his companions of the Southern Cross has been made by the New Zealand Government. A notice gazetted yesterday appoints the four aerial conquerors of the Tasman to the New Zealand Air Force, Squadron-Beader Kingsford Smith being given the rank of major, FlightLieutenant Ulm that of captain, and Messrs. Litchfield and Williams that of lieutenant. The appointments date from October 10, the appointees being simultaneously transferred to the reserve of officers.
