PROJECTED SOLO FLIGHT IN MOTH AEROPLANE (British Official Wireless.) Kugby, September 17. A trans-Atlantic solo flight in a Moth aeroplane next month is projected by Lieutenant - Commander MacDonald. Commander MacDonald owns a machine which has a small 85 horsepower engine. He recently made a tour across Europe to Syria after only eight hours’ flying experience. By crossing the Atlantic from Newfoundland to Ireland he hopes to complete the first flight of the kind with a small aeroplane. Herr Schmidt representing the Lufthansa interests, is reported to have secured tlie approval of the Nanking Goveniujent to establish a weekly air service from Berlin to Nanking via Irkutsk, occupying approximately 140 hours. The service is expected to commence shortly. HEAVIER-THAN-AIR MACHINES FIRST FLIGHT IN BRITAIN (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, September 16. With a view to deciding who made the first flight in a heavier-than-air machine in the British Isles, the Royal Aero Club lias set up a special committee, of which Lord Gorell has consented to be chairman, to investigate the claims to early flights.
