DISTINGUISHED NEW ZEALAND PHYSICIAN
REVISITING HIS NATIVE
A distinguished New Zealander at pre., nt revisiting his native land is Sir Thomas Parkinson, of London, who arrved at Wellington by the Ulimaroa yesterday morning. Sir Thomas, who is a noted physician and medical authority, was born in Canterbury on May 10, 1863. He spent his early life on sheep and cattle stations in the South Island, and in 1886 he proceeded to Edinburgh University, where he studied medicine, taking honours in anatomy, zoology, medicine, and surgery. After qualifying as a doctor he practised in Forfarshire and Sutherland until 1900 and then went to London. He has held the office of physician to the Marchioness of Milford Haven and the late Prince Louis of Battenberg, consulting physician to the American hospital for English soldiers, and physician to the Lady Lytton Military Hospital. Sir Thomas Parkinson has travelled extensively through Australia, Japan, China, the United States of America, and in other parts of the world. He is a member of the Royal Society of Medicine, and an ex-president of the Chelsea Clinical Society. Contributions on a wide range of subjects have also been made to various medical works by Sir Thomas. He received his knighthood in 1916.
