For a long time past the crossplanked, and graded section of the Hutt pipe bridge (on the Petoue side) has been a source of annoyance to motorists. Many of the planks had become loosened, and shifted audibly under traffic, the jolting effect being the reverse of beneficial to motor-cars. A start has been made to redeck that section of the bridge lengthwise, which will greatly ease the action of all vehicles. This is being done with substantial jarrah planks, which are being firmly bolted in position. On account ,of this work, motorists will have to be careful in making the approach from the western end, as there is only room for one-way traffic.
