was stated that hundreds of starving men were wandering over the roads of the country. The Prime Minister: I don’t think there are. Reform members: Sheer bunkum. The Prime Minister: There were men who were not able to get work, but to say that hundreds of men are walking about the roads starvingwell, I think the people in the country districts are best able to judge that. There is another point that is worthy of consideration. I do not want to attack the Labour unions, but I do suggest that they owe a duty to men on relief works and should not pounce on them for their dues. The Leader of the Opposition: That is not correct. Mr. Speaker: Order. The Prime Minister: I have evidence to show it It is just as well that the unions should be given the tip to wait until the men get settled in their jobs first. It is just as well that they should fall into line and help.
