The English Rugby League team officials enthuse about their Parliament House, reception and also on the heartiness of embrace with which they were received in Christchurch at the beautiful new Municipal Chambers, which was crowded when the Mayor .(the Rev. .1. K. Archer) gave his address (says the Auckland “Star”). Referring to his affinity for Soccer, Mr. Archer confessed that he once went, to a certain ground, but left when he found it was a Rugby field. Mr. Osborne, manager of the visiting team, took full advantage of the Mayoral quip by saying be knew two men who once made a similar mistake. They waited, watching some players kicking a ball about. At length, wondering when the game would commence, they made enquiry, and were informed that the “match” before them had been on 30 minutes! They went to the gate to get a refund, but the galeman said: "Oh, no, we can’t let you two go. If we did, the whole crowd would want to leave.” Mr. Osborne happens to be a director of the Rhyl Football Association in Wales, so his happy retort carried all the more point, and created much arausement.
