NATIONAL INDUSTRIAL CONFERENCE

EFFECT TO RECOMMENDATIONS An intimation that the recommendation of the National Industrial Conference with respect to immigration, workers’ compensation, and unemployment will be translated into legislation by next session, was given by the Prime Minister (Kt. Hon. J. G. Coates) in the House of Representatives last night. Mr. Coates said it had already been indicated that the Government believed that, the recommendations should form the basis of future legislation. Some of the recommendations would be given legislative effect this session and the remainder next session. Mr. E. J. Howard (Christchurch South): We will see to that next session. The Prime Minister: That is very kind of you. Whatever Government comes back, the commitments of this Government must have some effect on the future administration. I don’t

think there will be a very great change, though.
