JULY WEATHER
UNUSUAL CONDITIONS Although the first half of the month was wet and stormy, meteorological conditions during July were somewhat unusual. Practically the whole of the rainfall occurred during the first ten days of the month, the latter half of which was remarkably line and mild. The rainfall at Kelburn was 3.52 inches, which fell on ten days: at Karcri Reservoir 3.73 inches was recorded on 13 wet days. This is 29 per cent, below the July average of 5.22 inches. Most of the rain fell in three days, 139 points on the 7th, 121 on the Sth, and 44 points on the 9th, a total of 3.04 inches. During July, a total of 122.1 hours of sunshine was recorded, which is well above the average of 107.5 hours. There was a marked absence of gales or high winds during practically the whole- month.
The mean temperaturq for the month was 48.2 degrees, half a degree above the July average. The mean maximum temperature, 53.6 degrees, was half a degree above the July average, as was also the mean minimum of 42. S degrees. The frost recorded on the morning of the 19th was the hardest reported this year.
