TIME NOT OPPORTUNE
FOR NEW PLYMOUTH NIGHT EXPRESS As the extra revenue received would not give a return commensurate, with the expense involved, the time is not opportune for the inauguration of a night express between New Plymouth and Wellington. In advising Mr. W. S. Glenn (Rangitikei) to the above effect in the House of Representatives yesterday, the Minister of Railways (Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates) said that the Department recognised the material advantages, especially to the business community, which resulted from the facilities afforded by a night express service, and the matter had received sympathetic consideration. The additional traffic likely to result, however, would be quite insufficient to’ warrant the heavy expenditure entailed in providing additional engine power, sleeping cars, and staff.
