NEW MILK STATION

POSITION OF TENANTS Tlie position of the tenants affected by the City Council’s acquisition of a site for the new milk station was again referred to in the House of Representatives yesterday, when the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates) replied to tlie questions on the subject asked by Mr. I’. Fraser (Wellington Central).

"So far as the State Advances Department is concerned,” said the Prime Minister, "the position is that the Department has no workers’ homes on its hands available for occupation by the persons referred to. However, the State Advances Department can authorise loans to workers without delay in necessitous cases, and if these persons can comply with the regulations attaching to tlie granting of workers’ loans they may make application to the Department for the assistance they require.” Mr. Eraser criticised the action of the City Council in giving the tenants notice to quit, and suggested that the Prime Minister should step in and prevent lhe council from shirking its responsibilities.
