WELLINGTON’S NEW STATION

PLANS BEING PREPARED

Although no indication can yet be given as to when the erection of the new railway station at Wellington will be commenced, plans for the undertaking are now being prepared. In advising Mr- I’- Fraser (Wellington Central) to this effect in the House of Representatives yesterday, the Prime Minister (111. Hon. J. G. Coates) added that before the contract could be placed for the construction it was necessary to clear the site, and that in turn necessitated the erection of a new goods-shed on the Thorndon reclamation. In reply to a further question, Mr. Coates stated that the culverting work at Thorndon was being pushed ahead. It would be necessary to lay up one of the dredges temporarily, but every effort was being made to minimise that delay.
