CENTRAL FIRE STATION
AND THE ROWING CLUBHOUSE SITE
It may be remembered that in tbc architects’ report ou the building layout of the civic block, it was recommended that the Fire Board's new central station should be provided for. on the site now .occupied by the rowifig clubs in Jervois Quay, and this (the committee conjectures) could be done without disturbing the tenancy of the rowing clubs in the existing buildings. The meaning of this recommendation was taken to be that the Central Fire Station could be provided for on the strip of ground between the fence and the sheds, an area that presents a frontage of about half of the present station, and has a very restricted depth. The Fire Board has handed the proposal over to its architect to inquire into, and a plan has beeu prepared showing the possibilities and also the restrictions of the area in question. So far this matter has uot been fully discussed by the board, but will probably be gone into at its next meeting.
