Petone, Petone Recreation Ground. , Missing Referees. The South Wellington Club wrote that the appointed referee failed to appear to take their game with Hutt last Saturday. The game was taken by Mr. Gates, of South Wellington Club, a qualified referee, South Wellington fortunately having a reserve present. Complaints were received that there were other games in which appointed referees had failed to put in an appearance. Mr. Plant asked that the names of the defaulting referees should be forwarded to the Referees’ Association. Some cases might be due to certain referees engaged on the waterfront having a late call in the morning to work in the afternoon.
