SAMOAN QUESTION
MR. NELSON’S EFFORTS TO GET A HEARING MANDATES COMMISSIONS RULING (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian Press Assn.—United Service) Geneva, June 19. The Samoan question, originally fixed for to-day’s agenda for the Mandates Commission, has been postponed until to-morrow. Mr O. F. Nelson, with his daughter and secretary, is still at Geneva. The late Administrator of Samoa (Major-General Sir George Richardson) and Sir James Parr (New Zealand High Commissioner) are at a hotel two minutes distant, but there is no likelihood of their meeting MiNelson, either in the presence of the Commission or privately. Mr Nelson sought to place his case before various members of the Mandates Commission, with varying degrees of success, according to the differing views of the members as to the propriety of such interviews, the League Council having ruled in 1926 that individual petitioners should not be heard before the Commission. The Council, however, has not made a ruling concerning individual action by members in elucidation of particular problems. ', The Commission’s meetings arc held in secret, and the report will not be published until after the Commission submits it to the Council in September.
Mr Nelson, if ho does not obtain satisfaction now, will seek a means of raising the matter again in September.
