OTAKI BOROUGH
PROCEEDINGS OF COMMISSION IN
COMMITTEE.
Otaki, May 21. The Otaki Rating Commission, which consists of Messrs. T. R. V,' atson. S.M. (Feilding), W. T. Strand (Lower Hutt), and W. Nash (Wellington) resumed sitting this morning, when aclassifieation of properties in the borough was submitted to the members. Mr. C. F. Atmore (appearing for the Otaki Borough Council) said that if the borough’s proposals were accepted it would be necessary to make separate classifications, one for water and one for drainage. Mr. M. Luekie (appearing for the farming community) remarked that lie could say nothing about the matter until his clients found out to what extent they would benefit by the proposals. Mr. Atmore then asked for an opportunity of discussing the matter with the commission, find with the Valuer-General (Mr. T. Brook) in committee. On the suggestion of the chairman, the commission then adjourned, further business for the present being taken in committee. The evidence of Mr. T. F. Martin will be heard in Wellington, where the commission will deal with the case for certain freeholders.
