CONCILIATION COUNCIL
RETAIL BUTCHERS’ WORKING CONDITIONS.
Palmerston North, Maj; 22.
A sitting of the Conciliation Council was held in Palmerston North this morning to consider an application by retail butchers in the country districts for a separate award. On the application of the Workers’ Union, however, the proceedings were adjourned. Those present at the sitting wore the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. P. Hally) and Messrs. S. H. Snell and W. McKenzie, representing the employers. The position is that while one award covers all the industrial district of Wellington and n continuation of this is desired by the workers' union, the employers in the country districts want a separate award. The contention between the parties will hare to be settled by the Arbitration Court.
