VIEW TO MAKING IT POPU-

LAR BOOK (Australian Press Association.) ■' London, May 13. The Rev. Alexander Nairne, Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch; and*'Mr. T, R. Glover, Public Orator at Cambridge University, are editing a new abridged edition of the Bible. Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch says that at present the Bible is repellenttaS'a book, .owing to the system of double columns, marginal references, .and. numbered verses. “People are no longer buying.and reading it. We are considering,” he says, “reducing it to a volume of nine hundred pages, dispensing with marginal notes and numbered verses, retaining Genesis, Exodus, and Deuteronomy, except the genealogical trees, and deleting most of Leviticus, ancl„ Numbers : greatly reducing Proverbs; separating the poetical from the historical sections of Isaiah, and merging the latter with. Kings; excluding Chronicles altogether; printing the Psalms and Job as free verse, and retaining the whole of the New Testament, except a few Epistles.
