HEADLIGHT RULES

PREPARATION FOR BITU-

MEN WORK

A meeting of the Wellington Automobile Club was held last night. There were present: Messrs. A. L. Warburton (chairman), 11. S. Abraham, A. F. Batt, W. 11. Shortt, J. J. Curtis, I. V. Wilson, W. 11. C. Oswin, 11. Lawrence, and the secretary (Mr. 11. J; Stott). Matters concerning the Palmerston North branch wore discussed at some length, together with the question of payment. of fees to the head office. It was stated that the club had spent quite a lot of money in the Manawatu district in signposts and the camp site, and it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of a sub-committee to interview the Palmerston North executive. Mr. I. V. Wilson said lie would like to see the whole executive go up to Palmerston North. Li passing the account for the printing of the club's guide book, the chairman said the guide book had been greatly appreciated by motorists touring the country, and the secretary stated that applications were constantly being received for the liooffi The meeting agreed that the book was very valuable to motorists generally. Preparation Work. A report of the proceedings at the City and Suburban Highways Board was received showing the progress of works done and contemplated. The cost of preparation work was discussed. Mr. Batt: Are all these outlying counties getting this preparation work done for nothing? Sir. Curtis: I don't know. Sir. Batt: It looks as if it is only necessary to plead poverty to get the whole job done. Headlights. The secretary reported that regulation No. 3, clause 10, provided that headlights must be focused and adjusted so that the main beam at a distance of 75ft. must not project more than 3ft. Bin. above the horizontal surface. Someone would be prosecuted for having his headlights out of focus, and so having a glaring light. Sir. Wilson said that lamps were easily adjusted by focusing them on a wall at the right distance. It was a question of adjusting the bulb. The ordinary garage could not do it, because it had not the necessary distance of 75ft. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the secretary to make arrangements with the secretary of the Motor Garages’ Association.
