POLICE CASES Mr. E. Page, S.M.. presided in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. For her fourth offence of drunkenness Josephine Ann Monthly, a domestic, aged 40, was fined fl, in default, seven days’ imprisonment. She was similarly treated for committing a breach of her prohibition order. Wilfred McLeod, a seaman, aged 2J, was fined fl, in default three days' imprisonment. for his fourth offence of drunkenness. For wilfully damaging a watch and chain,, the property of Abraham Brown, to the extent of £2, accused was convicted and ordered to make good the damage, in default fourteen days’ imprisonment. Edward Francis Hurley, alias Frank Hurley, aged 26, who admitted stealing f2 in'money from his room-mate. John Tabou, was fined £5, in default one month’s imprisonment. He was also ordered to make restitution of the amount stolen. Edward Price, a seaman, aged 2b, and John Connor, a seaman, aged 22, were each fined £2, in default seven days’ imprisonment, for behaving in a disorderly manner. For wilfully damaging two panes of glass and a set of false teeth, valued in all at £l3, they were each convicted, and ordered to make good the damage, in default fourteen days’ imprisonment. Sub-Inspector Lander stated that the two accused entered a cafe in Cuba Street while under the influence of liquor, late on Saturday ni"ht, and made themselves objectionable. When asked to leave the premises they assaulted the proprietor, who had his false teeth broken. Neither of the accused had previously been before the Court. “This is the man who when charged with His seventh offence of drunkenness before Your Worship on Saturday morning pleaded to be given a chance as he was going away to sea,” said Sub-In-spector Lander when referring to Peter O’Malley, aged 45, who admitted his eighth offence of drunkenness. Accused asked for just one more chance, and said he would bother the Court no more. He had had a few drinks on Saturday, and “got knocked out completely.” He was looking forward to getting away to sea that afternoon. Accused was remanded until this morning, His Worship making an order that if the police found out he was really going to England on the steamer in question he was to be placed on board before the vessel sailed. MOUNT COOK COURT In the Mount Cook Court yesterday, before Mr. IV. H. Coy, J.P., James Howard, on a fourth charge of drunkenness, was fined £l, in default three, days’ imprisonment.
