“UTTER NONSENSE”

RUMOURED TOTAL COST OF NORTHLAND TUNNEL

At'the meeting of the City Council last night, Councillor Semple asked the Mayor if he could inform him what was the total cost of the Northland tunnel and the wall which was to be built before the tunnel could be brought into service. It was suggested that the wall which would have to be built would cost from £50,000 to £60,000. Was there any truth In the statement that the wall would cost £50,000 or £60,000, in addition to the tunnel?

The Mayor: I can assure Councillor Semple that that is utter nonsense.
