NATIONAL WAR MEMORIAL

RAISING WELLINGTON'S

£lOO,OOO

The Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup) has convened a meeting of the public for neit Tuesday evening (at the Council Chamber) to take the initial steps in connection with the campaign -to raise £lOO,OOO ’ for the citizens’ contribution towards the national war memorial, the new Dominion museum and art gallery on Mount Cook. It is obligatory on the part of the city to raise that sum, as it was conditional upon that action that the Government consented to the form of memorial suggested—one that would not only keep green the memory of those who fought in the World War, but would serve a purpose at once useful, educational and artistic.

Several substantial contributions are practically assured, and those behind the movement are confident that the effort to raise the money will not be a very difficult one.
