When leaving the harbour the other morning for Bl nil, tut American steaiiicr, West Conob, was diverted from the Victor'a channel course by the strong southwest wind (says the “Otago Times”). The vessel was turning a bend m the channel between llavensbourne and Burkes about 730 am, with the wind on the port quarter. Being in very light trim, the West Conob did not answer readily to her helm and she ran on the soft mud abreast of the . Burkes railway station i-|i 0 ship remained on the ziuud until about 3.30 p.m., when she was successfully towed back into the channel by the'tug Dunedin and dredge 222. The steamer suffered no damage, and steamed on to the open sea. When she cleared the harbour entrance, it was blowing a hard gale. and as the captain realised that little progress could be made, the shin came to an anchorage. She remained P ou »<le the.
