INSTITUTE OF HORTICULTURE
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Executive Council of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture was held On Wednesday. In the absence of the president, Mr. J. A. Campbell occupied the chair. The issue of seven additional diplomas in Horticulture was authorised, and five applications were held over for further consideration. The regulations under the Institute of Horticulture Act, 1927, providing for the holding of examinations, and the granting of certificates and diplomas by the Institute, were gazetted on March 15, and steps, it was stated, were being taken to get into touch with the educational authorities in the Dominion, with the of having classes provided for the purpose of assisting young men to obtain the knowledge required to enable them to qualify for the prescribed examinations.
As the Act authorised the institute Io grant certificates or diplomas to holders of certificates or diplomas of equal standing, granted by recognised inslilu((ioiis du I side New Zealand, slops were being taken io gather information, which will enable the standing of such outside certificates or diplomas to be assessed.
Information was being obtained from horticultural societies throughout Now Zealand, and as soon as sufficient purlieu lars were available, the preparation of flio Register of Horticultural Judges would bo proceeded with. The institute’s .proposals regarding National Botanic Gardens had been circulated to the curators of public gardens throughout lhe Dominion, and suggestions invited, in order to perfect the scheme. A number of suggestions had already been received.
