FAR EAST FLIGHT
BY ROYAL AIR FORCE BOATS Rugby, February 11. The official log of the Far East flight of the Royal Air Force, which is now , nearing Singapore, on its way to Australia, was issued yesterday. It shows how with a good advance organisation •four flying boats can be flown over immense 'distances and under varying conditions across sea, and over land with speed and security. The flight is equipped with Supermanne Southampton metal-hulled flying boats, each with two Napier-Lion engines, and is under the command of Group-Captain H. M. Cave-Brown-Cave. When it hascompleted the whole cruise of 28,000 miles it will have carried out a service exercise never yet attempted by any other nation.—British Official Wireless. . IMPERIAL AIRWAYS SERVICES Rugby, February 12. Despite storm handicaps the fliers of the Imperial Airways maintained the outward service to Paris, Brussels, and Cologne. The inward services from Brussels and Cologne to London were cancelled, but one of the Imperial Airwavs liners carrying 18 passengers made a flight from Paris to London. The journev occupied four hours. —British Official Wireless. AMSTERDAM-BATAVIA SERVICE London, February 12. Arising from a successful trial flight bv the Dutch airman, Koppen, the Royal Dutch Airlines have arranged what is claimed to be the longest and fastest air mail service in the world, from Amsterdam to Batavia, 8000 miles, in seven to ten days, once monthly in each direction, using monoplanes driven by three engines. No passengers will be carried—A.P.A. and “Sun.” HINKLER’S PROGRESS (Rec. February . 13, 7.35 p.m.) London, February 12, B. Hinkler, the Australian aviator who is flying to Australia, has reached Basrah. LINDBERGH OFF AGAIN (Rec. February 13, 11.30 p.m.) Havana, February 13. Lindbergh hopped off early this morning for the 1200 miles flight to St. Louis, the last leg of his goodwill tour.
