NAVAL GUN PRACTICE

TUESDAY’S OPERATIONS.

Dominion Special Service.

Auckland, January 25. The New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy- arrived off Horahora Island last night following upon, a day’s gun practice. Operations in the afternoon were similar to those in the morning, except that the Diomede was the firing ship while the Dunedin laid a smoke screen. The results of the efficiency test are not available, as considerable calculation is involved. The Diomede’s compliment arc confident of their superiority, but doubtless similar sentiments are being expressed on the flagship. Last night a party of 60 marines landed at Waiwera, which they will defend against an attack early to-mor-row morning.
