POWER BOARD AFFAIRS
MANAWATU-OROUA BODY MEETS. Palmerston North, January 9. Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., presided at the meeting of the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board today. Correspondence was received from the Railway Board with reference to the storage of trucks at the Feilding station; the letter stated that steps would be taken to keep the wagons away from the crossing whenever it was possible to do so. A further letter from the Railway Department stated that it had been decided not to press for payment of cost of repairs to the engine made necessary by a recent collision with the Power Board vehicle at Feilding. In the statement of accounts presented to the meeting it was’ set out that consumers of the board’s power numbered in the various classifications as follow:—Lighting and heating, 3954; electric ranges, 365; water heaters, 752; industrial, 83, milking motors, 621; small motors, 296; street lights, 249; communitv lights, 50. An increase of 19 per cent, in the current supplied during 19'27, when compared with that supplied in 1926, was shown, the amounts being as follow: December, 1926, £4052 2s. 4d.; December, 1927, £4821 19s. 7d.
In his monthly report the engineer stated that steady progress Rad been made during the month on the Otara settlement line, though there was still a little pole erecting to be done, and a number of consumers were still waiting to be connected. It was hoped to complete the Otara area in about two weeks. The following new consumers had been added to the system for December: Lighting and heating, 48; ranges, 19 ; water heaters, 24; milking motors, 18; other motors, 23; additions, 18.
