EKETAHUNA NOTES
At the last meeting of the Eketahuna Borough Council the War Memorial committee advised the council that, in view of the fact that the memorial property was now vested in the council, it had decided to disband. The Audit Department returned the last two years’ balance-sheets, duly approved. It was , further decided to order a clean-up week throughout the borough during the month. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. H. J. Doherty for preparing plans of a proposed porch annexe to the memorial rest room. It was decided to forward a letter of appreciation to Miss Anderson in connection with her donation of a memorial lich-gate to the War Memorial grounds.
The cemetery committee was authorised to proceed with the work of draining certain portions of the Masterton road cemetery. The committee reported the planting of further trees in the various reserves, and mentioned that the painting of the : ports ground pavilion was now in progress. The works committee reported the completion of metal contracts, _ and it was authorised to proceed with the completion of a footpath in the vicinity of the Anglican Church, and also to have necessary repairs effected to the borough water supply pipeline. It was decided to offer the Athletic Society the services of one _ man for a week in connection with improvements to, the snorts 'ground.
At the annual meeting of the Eketahuna Amateur Athletic Society, the president (Mr. C. H. Parsons), presiding over a good attendance of members, the balance-sheet disclosed a surplus of 7s. Bd. on the year’s working, and a sura of £45 0s 9d. to be carried forward. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow :— Patron, Mr. G. R. Sykes, M.P.; president, Mr. .F. Preston; vice-presidents, Messrs. C. H. and T. Parsons, A Ross, S. M. George, F. Percy; secretary, Mr. G. W. Brown (re-elected) ; treasurer, Mr. H. E. Greathead; delegate to sub-union, Mr. A. Mac Ewan (Masterton) ; committee, Messrs. L. Eagle, O’Regan, T. W. Watts, P. Lynch, J. Ferguson, C. McLaughlan, R. Doney, A. Pickering. It was decided to top-dress the track and to apply for the second Wednesday in February as the meeting date.
The death has occurred of Airs. Godinagh, wife of Mr. Matthew Godinagh, of Alfredton, in her 47th year Deceased, with her husband, had been resident in - Alfredton for many years past, and had suffered indifferent health for some ’.onsiderable time. Deceased is survived by her widower, two sons, and two daughters.
