AMATEUR ATHLETICS

WELLINGTON CENTRE’S ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Wellington Centre A.A.A. was held last night, Mr. A. C. Kitto presiding over a large attendance, which included Mr. G. McKay, delegate for the Wairarapa Sub-Centre, and Mr. C. .1. Robertson, delegate for Hawke’s Bay Centre. The report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. In the. course of. his remarks Mr. Kitto said that in the Hawke’s Bay, Nelson, find Motueka districts amateur athletics had made great progress during the past season, and with the right men at their heads would keen on progressing steadily. It was gratifying to see daylight saving an accomplished fact, but its effect on the evening meetings would requiwi some consideration. Tn the past season the evening meetings had been fin unQualified suecess, and it was the duty of the centre to see that every consideration in the wav of prompt starting was given to the nublic. With regard to athletics m both primary and secondary schools, Mr. Kitto remarked that the Wellington Centre would give them all the support they could. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: Ratron. Mr. R. W. McVilly. re-elected; president. Mr. A.. C Kitto, re-elected: vice-presidents, Mr. W H. Bennett and the presidents of the Wairarapa and Manawatu SubCentres: deputy chairman of committee, Mr. H. McCormick; lion, secretary, Mr. .7 O’Sullivan; sports secretary. Mr. J. A. Peterson; bon. treasurer, Mr, D. Wilson; delegates to N.Z.A.A.A., Messrs. R. W. McVilly and G H. Lusk; starter, Mr. T. W. Leslie; assistant starters, Messrs. J. O’Sullivan and A. Tracey: head timekeeper, Mr. L. West; standard timekeeper, Mr. W. H. Pollock; local officer, Air. H. McCormick; cycling local officer, Mr. G. H. Harrison; handicappers, athletics. Mr. A. C. Kitto; cycling, Mr. G. H. Harrison; megaphonists, Mr. E. A. Parsonage: gear committee, Messrs. J. Peterson, E. Collier, and F. S. HiL: advertising committee, Messrs. S. Hall, E. G. Guv. and I*’, de Malmanche; programme committee, Messrs. F. Hill and L. R. Poutawera. On the motion of Mr. IL W.. Thompson, it was decided that permission be granted to the Wellington Broadcasting Company to broadcast . the results of athletic meetings, provided that the Wellington Centro are satisfied with the broadcaster. Permission was granted tn© Dower Hutt Amateur Atljietio and Cycling Culb to hold an avening meeting on November 9. On the motion of Mr. C. ,T Robertson it: was decided that no professional club be granted uermission to run amateur events on their programmes. unless the entrance fee for those events is Is. or less.
