LOSS OF REVENUE

EFFECT OF DAYLIGHT SAVING

One effect of the bperation of the Summertime Act will be to reduce the revenue of the city from the electric light and power department. This was admitted by the Mayor yesterday. However, added Mr. Troup, it was not anticipated that the fall in the sale of electricity would-be very great, and he was quite confident that the increased daylight would mean more travelling on the city trams, so that the corporation would be recouped in that direction. Informed that some concern had been expressed at the possibility that a fall in the demand for electricity might be followed bv a reduction of the discount rate, which four months ago was increased from 2d. to 3d. per unit, Mr. Troup remarked: “We wouldn’t do that. What we give with one hand we do not take away with the other.”
