A petrol case received in Christchurch has led to tho discovery that there is in San Francisco a man named Mr. Z. Hoppletheim, whose theories about petrol and tho Great War are interesting (remarks tho “Lyttelton Times”). Pencilled on the case of petrol are the words: "Z. Hoppletheim, 15 Fitzgerald Avenue, San Francisco, Cal., U.S.A.—Wo won thewar and save dl.he British Islands from defeat and extinction, now T guess you buv our oil/” The nieco of board upon which was this striking piece of philosophy was exhibited at the meeting of tho executive of the Canterbury Progress League. The chairman (Mr. G._ M. Hall) said that it prompted him to invest 3s. 6d. in a book by Owen Wister, “The Snuare Deal,’’ and to send it on to Mr. Honpletheim with the League’s compliments.
