AWARD FOR SAVING LIFE
BOY GRANTED BRONZE -MEDAL Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, October 10. An application for an award in the case of Rodney Thornhill Cooper, aged 12, a schoolboy, of Sea View Road, New Brighton, who rescued a child from drowning in August, came before today’s meeting of the Court of Directors of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand, and it was decided to award him a bronze medal. Bv some means the child (Cameron White), who was unable to swim, got into the river at New Brighton and was not seen until he was drowning. Cooper dived in with all his clothes on, swam about 12 yards, and brought White to the beach. Were it not for Cooper s prompt action and knowledge of resuscitation White would have been drowned. Mr. A. W. Owlos. Mayor of New Brighton, made the application. Mr C. D. Morris said that the boy s action merited something more Gian an ordinary framed certificate. He suggested that the boy be awarded a bronze medal, and the suggestion was adopted.
