THORNDON PLAY AREA
DIFFICULTY REGARDING SITE Following upon the decision of the City Council not to take further action in the establishment of a children’s play area in Fitzherbert Terrace the reserves committee is now searching for another site, and anticipates some difficulty in finding it. Mr. G. Shirtcliffe’s bequest to the City Council included £l5OO for the equipment of a play area for the Thorndon district. Consequently the committee is limited in its choice, and so far no decision has been reached as to what recommendation can be made to the council. Several pieces of land have been offered to the city, but all. are in the hands of property owners, and if the whole bequest were devoted to the purchase of the land necessary for the establishment of a children’s plav area, the sum given by Mr. Shirtcliffe would probably be found to be insufficient.
