DAYLIGHT SAVING
MINISTER ADVOCATES FAIR TRIAL
A fair trial for daylight saving was advocated by the Minister of Lands (Hon. A. D. McLeod) when speaking at the opening of the Martinborough Bowling Club on Saturday. “Participants in all outdoor exercises, pastimes, and sports,’’ said the Minister, “will no doubt have taken a- keen interest in the passage of the daylight saving legislation through Parliament during the present session. The advancement of the clock for one hour during certain months of the year is now the law of the land, and will operate for the coming summer. It is up to us all to give it a fair trial. “Personally,” continued the Minister, “I have never supported the legislation and express no regret for my attitude. My opposition has arisen from the belief that there was the possibility of a serious disability being cast upon those directly engaged in our foundation industry, which is also our greatest industry. No foundation can be seriously undermined without bringing disaster to any structure erected thereon. No one, however, will be more pleased than I to find that in its application the legislation will produce none of the direful happenings forecasted.’’
